El-Sisi’s heated talks on the sidelines of the Bahrain summit

On the sidelines of the 33rd Arab League Summit in the Bahraini capital, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with many  Presidents to discuss several pressing issues in the Middle East region.

Spokesman for the Presidency, Counselor Dr. Ahmed Fahmy, said the two Presidents affirmed the depth of the Egyptian-Djiboutian relations. They stressed their keenness on enhancing cooperation in various fields and on promoting them toward broader prospects, reflecting the two countries’ common interests, notably at the economic, commercial, and investment levels.

The meeting addressed the situation in the region. President El-Sisi and President Guelleh emphasized the need to safeguard security and stability in the Horn of Africa region, confirming their keenness on holding constant consultations. President El-Sisi reiterated Djibouti’s significant role in the region, lauding its efforts to achieve peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.

The talks also touched on the situation in the Red Sea region. President El-Sisi underscored Egypt’s firm stance on the need to end the Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip, considering it the main cause for the expansion of instability in the region. Within this context, both sides emphasized the critical need to restore calm in Bab el-Mandeb Strait, stressing the importance of coordinating efforts among Red Sea riparian states and of enhancing their joint cooperation, as the main stakeholders in the stability of this region.

Spokesman for the Presidency, Counselor Dr. Ahmed Fahmy, said President El-Sisi emphasized Egypt’s support for the Palestinian leadership in the face of the pressures exerted upon it. The President expressed Egypt’s appreciation for the Palestinian Authority’s efforts to push the international community to assume its responsibilities in confronting the Israeli aggression in Gaza.

President El-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s rejection of the Israeli war in Gaza, which has been further exacerbated by the military operations in the Palestinian city of Rafah. The President highlighted Egypt’s intensive efforts to mobilize a serious and firm international stance against the Israeli hostilities. President El-Sisi also reviewed Egypt’s endeavors to end the war, prevent the aggravation of the humanitarian conditions in the sector, and deliver sufficient quantities of aid to save the people of the sector. President El-Sisi also affirmed Egypt’s steadfast position regarding the need to reach a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, by expanding the recognition of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. He emphasized that a just settlement of the Palestinian issue is the main guarantor for stability and security of the region.

Palestinian President Abbas lauded Egypt’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and its earnest efforts to stop the Palestinian bloodshed. He confirmed his keenness on holding continuous consultations and coordination with President El-Sisi to restore peace and security in the Palestinian territories and ensure the Palestinian people regain their legitimate rights.

Spokesman for the Presidency, Counselor Dr. Ahmed Fahmy, said the meeting tackled ways to foster closer cooperation between the two countries, in line with their peoples’ aspirations for stability and development.

President El-Sisi and His Majesty King Abdullah II focused on the current situation in the Gaza Strip and the catastrophic conditions endured by the Palestinians in the sector as a result of the persistent Israeli aggression for over seven months, which were further aggravated by the Israeli military hostilities in the Palestinian city of Rafah. President El-Sisi and His Majesty King Abdullah II underscored the fundamental positions of their two countries, namely demanding an immediate and lasting ceasefire, providing urgent and full access for humanitarian aid and relief into Gaza, and categorically rejecting the forced displacement of the Palestinians and the liquidation of the Palestinian cause. They also reiterated the need for the international community to assume its responsibilities toward the recognition of a Palestinian State, along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, which will contribute to reinforcing the two-state solution and to restoring the Palestinian right.

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with President of Iraq, Abdul Latif Rashid, on the sidelines of the 33rd Arab Summit in Bahrain.

Spokesman for the Presidency, Counselor Dr. Ahmed Fahmy, said President El-Sisi and Iraq’s President expressed contentment at the level of the two countries’ relations. They lauded the recent progress in their cooperation at the bilateral level, as well as the trilateral level with Jordan, confirming that this momentum contributes to connecting the two countries’ interests and to boosting their joint benefits. President El-Sisi and President Rashid looked forward to strengthening economic cooperation, in light of the economic crises in the region. President El-Sisi underscored Egypt’s support for the stability of Iraq and for safeguarding its unity and territorial integrity, commending its counter-terrorism efforts.

The two Presidents stressed the importance of joint coordination to reinforce stability in the Middle East and enhance regional cohesion amidst the current turmoil. The meeting also discussed Egypt’s efforts to reach calm in Gaza and provide access for humanitarian aid. President El-Sisi and Iraq’s President warned against the negative repercussions of the ongoing Israeli hostilities in the Gaza Strip and its military operations in the Palestinian city of Rafa..

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Chairman of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, on the sidelines of the 33rd Arab Summit in Bahrain.

Spokesman for the Presidency, Counselor Dr. Ahmed Fahmy, stated that President El-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s commitment to the unity and stability of Yemen, while supporting all regional and international efforts aimed at resolving the Yemeni crisis politically. The President reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast support for legitimacy, represented by the Presidential Leadership Council and the legitimate Yemeni government. This stance was appreciated by the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, who commended Egypt’s support for his country at the political and humanitarian levels.

During the meeting, President El-Sisi and Dr. Al-Alimi were keen on consulting over the current developments in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden regions. They emphasized the necessity to strengthen efforts to resolve the Gaza crisis and subsequently reduce the current tensions, which would reflect on the situation in the Red Sea. The two sides also underscored the importance of enhancing cooperation among Red Sea riparian states, given their pivotal interest in the stability of the region and maritime security in this strategic passage.
